Our Commitment to Food Safety and Quality
- Earth’s Best® ingredients are vetted through a rigorous food safety and quality program.
- Earth’s Best’s established internal limits for heavy metals are compliant with US and EU standards.
- After production, Earth’s Best baby food* is sent out to a Third Party for testing to certify total heavy metal levels remain under the established internal limits.
Heavy Metals
Why are there heavy metals in Baby Food?
Heavy metals are naturally occurring in our environment and can also be caused by pollutants and contaminants that rain washes into crops and soils. As plants grow, they draw in heavy metals from the soil. These plants include fruits, vegetables and herbs that become our food.
Is all soil contaminated?
No soil is completely free of heavy metals, but some geographical locations have lower levels of heavy metals in their soil. Earth’s Best and its suppliers source ingredients from farms growing produce that meet our stringent standards.

Our food is safe. Nothing is more important to Earth’s Best than the trust and confidence of parents that our products provide safe nutrition for healthy babies.
Heavy metals are present in the soil, air, and water, and trace amounts are absorbed by the simple ingredients used to make food products, including fruits, vegetables, and grains. There is no scientific basis to believe that the trace levels that can exist in commercial baby food, pose any risk of harm to consumers.
Our stringent testing practices include the evaluation of raw ingredients used to manufacture Earth’s Best products prior to use for heavy metals content, pesticide residues, and potential contaminants, and our internal testing procedures are continuously refined. We also test Earth’s Best finished products. Our products comply with all food safety regulations, and we continue to support efforts to reduce trace levels of heavy metals as aligned to FDA’s Closer to Zero initiative.
